University of Nevada, Reno Written by Thornton Wilder THTR 403 - Lighting Design Final Project
For this project, I endeavored to develop a lighting design, independently envisioning a director's vision. My primary concept was to achieve a sense of realization after life has passed you by. I see the central message of Our Town as encouraging the appreciation of the small things in life through the loss of the characters' ability/want to do so. What do we value in life? Should we value something else? What regrets do we hold when we no longer have the ability to make a different decision? I enjoyed playing with the sharpness of focus to portray that message.
The Goal: "Our town is about realizing the need to appreciate the little things in life, but only when it is too late. The lighting will utilize light tints and a shift from general and soft to hard and specific edge and focus to portray the slow realization and hard-hitting emotions of the characters and audience."

For this project, all paperwork was created in Google Sheets, then delivered in PDF format. Since completing this project, I have migrated to using Lightwright for the creation and updating of my paperwork. See Romeo & Juliet for more details on my current workflow and the style of my deliverables.
As a class requirement, the plots for this project were hand-drawn on Clearprint 1000H Design Vellum at 1/2":1'00". For many other projects, I have used CAD drafting software. See Romeo and Juliet for further details on my drafting for lighting.
